leadership philosophy

My leadership philosophy has come from who I am, the culture ive grown up in, and the people and events that have shaped who I am. However, my philosophy has grown and changed just as much as I have since my ideals and values have altered. No matter what philosphy I share with you in this summation it could change down the line but thats the great thing about leadership, your allowed to grow and change as you gain more experince throughout life. This reflection will give you the most current philosophy and what as of now got me to this philosphy.

Figuring out my philosophy has started from reflecting on who I am and the ideals, moments, and people that have grown with and raised me. I am the oldest daughter in an immagrant household that treats her friends like their family. I pride myself in my loyalty, helpfuless, dedication, and perserverance through the life I have lived through. One of the unique things that I noticed I developed that is a rarity to find is the fact that im able to find the good in anything and to laugh when things get difficult. This skill is unique to specific individuals because you train this ability over time and have to overcome the easiness of looking at things in a glass half empty perspective.

The reason I do this all in the first place is because I was raised to work hard, to reach for the stars, seize every opportunty, and to give back and help others. It especially comes from the stories I heard about my family growing up that they had to sacrifice and undergo horrible conditons when they immgrated from Cuba to miami. They had to perservere and remeber the reason they went through the hardships they went through, which was to give their family and future generation of family a better life. I want to make them proud everday and I do that by doing the best I can and working harder than everyone around me in everything that I do.

I feel like my leadership style is unique in the sense that when I find the greatness in you, I wont give up on you or make you feel insignificant. I describe my leaderhsip style as transformational and servent. I feel it comes from how I was raised to remeber the importance of giving back to the world around you and that to never assume things about people or give up on them. Anyone at the end of the day is capable of anything as long as they work hard and perservere, and it helps when theres someone there to belive in you. Im also an over-communicator and make sure everyone is on the same page at all times and make sure that we get things done efficiently. Lastly, I know that theres always room to grow and itll make me a better leader in the long run. Most people take offense for when somone critiques them but I know that all criticisms just mean that theres room to grow.

This leads to that when I am leading a team or apart of a team, my expectations are that we do everything to the best of our abilities and be happy with what were doing. I feel if that when you dont do that then your project wont turn out the way it was intedned to do so in the begining. I contribute to this idea by working hard to insure I have everything done the best way that I can and to help my groupmates if theres something they need help on or be honest when I need help with something knowing I wont have time to do it to the best of my abilities. I feel this will lead us to sucess by us being able to have our project or task completed to our standards and be able to have acheived all the goals that we intedned for it.

My personal experinces, especially in the lead scholars academy, have taught me so much about the kind of leader I am and how I naturally react to different situations. I learned recently through the service activty were doing for leadership week that I put myself in the head organiztions position due to me wanting to be involved and help as much as I can. Also, I appreciate being a resource for the people around me such as when I was in girl scouts and I was good with tying knots, strong, and with money. I would give people peace of mind because Id be a helping hand. When we learned the 7 C’s it also showed me how much I use some of the C’s in the things that I plan or think will work when im leading. For example, community has people come together for a common cause which is what I love to implement because I like building a team and being able to work with others with different perspecitives. Also, I subconciously implement citizenship because its impportant to act with good chatevter which I do in every team and I communicate with honesty which keeps the team on the same page.

All of these come down to the fact that whenever you lead you should lead with effetivness, efficiency, and joy. This philosophy for me gathers all of my life experinces and the lessons ive learned into three simple categories. Effectivness because you need to be a good leader and be able to help the people around you whil continuing to learn and grow yourslef. Efficency because you need to be realitic about your goal and be able to charge into the task with everything and making it a priority and not something that can be doen eventually because it will never be done right. Lastly, Joy because if your miserable throughout then it will show at the end. Finding something that is worth doing what you have to do correctly and well done gives you the chance to create something incredible. This is my leadership philosophy and all the circumstances and lessons it took to disvover it.
