My Career Ready Portfolio

As you can see, I have four main goals in my vision board. Starting off with getting a degree in civil engineering which is what I am currently studying. I am a sophomore and would like to get a bachelor’s in engineering. Once I get my degree my next goal is to create my own company. I am aware this could possibly take a little bit of time considering I will be coming out of college. First, I would like to gain experience by working at a good engineering company. Once I gather the experience, I need I would eventually like to start my own company. Starting off alone is difficult but it shows character. I would then like to grow and expand the company to work all around the U.S. I will save the money I have gained in order to reach my next goal which is traveling around the world and volunteering. Traveling is something I have always been interested in. I am half Indian and half Colombian so you can already imagine the countries I have been to. I would like to travel all over the world, gain more experience, talk to more people, embrace the cultures and volunteer by helping out local communities. I believe I would keep working with the company I have built but I would do it online since engineering is something you are able to do on the computer. These are my main goals in life, and I am close to receiving the first one. My leadership style is a democratic leadership style where I offer guidance but don’t completely control or try to change everyone who follows me. I believe everyone should have a say in what gets to happen, and I want to inspire not control. Throughout my life I have seen every type of leadership style in people. My parents were very autocratic leaders meaning what they say goes. Although this has many benefits, I believe that having a democratic leadership style would have been better and I learned to not tell the truth and be sneaky because of their autocratic leadership style. My career self-assessment showed my 4 main careers were counseling psychologist, assessment director, forensic psychologist, and health psychologist. My assessment showed I was a very caring leader as I cared about other people’s opinions. My strengths were communication, caringness, and resourcefulness. I believe communication is very important in a leader as it established trust and faith in the leader. Some things that have shaped me into this leader is being on a swim team growing up. I was a swimmer for over 14 years and learned the importance of communication and trust. My teammates were my best friends and we supported each other unconditionally. This taught me to care about others’ opinions and thoughts and not try to control people as it only produces chaos. I used to volunteer with my swim team and teach the little kids to swim. These little kids were so bright and had such a big heart. They wanted to be exactly like me, a very talented and dedicated swimmer. I was able to teach them firsthand and talk to them about their goals as well. I served as a guidance figure and leader to them, and I didn’t want to control their goals I wanted to help them create their goals and eventually achieve them. Although this doesn’t directly relate to my career it taught me to be resourceful and a democratic leader which is what I will need when I start up my own company. I want my employees to have trust in me and to eventually start being their own leaders, create their own goals and eventually achieve them. I want them to be creative and have a mind of their own but also create a shared goal throughout the company that we can all work towards.
