According to one (student) user, “The material in Strategies for Conducting Literary Research was fairly new to me. I have taken literature classes before, but none were as in-depth on the topic. This course has built just about everything I know about this. I have been able to better articulate myself in essays for other classes thanks to this class. I refer back to the material covered in this course often when writing an essay and I’ve found it extremely helpful when it comes to methodologies, picking a clear thesis, etc.”

Barry Jason Mauer

Barry Mauer

Barry Jason Mauer is associate professor, English, at the University of Central Florida. He is the author of Deadly Delusions: Right-Wing Death Cult (2020) and co-editor (with Anastasia Salter) of the forthcoming volume, Re-imagining the Humanities (Parlor Press). He has published numerous articles and book chapters about citizen curating, which brings ordinary people into the production of exhibits, both online and in public spaces.

John Venecek

John Venecek is a Humanities Librarian at the University of Central Florida. His primary areas of interest include open education resources, textbook affordability, and digital humanities. Prior to his arrival at UCF, John taught English at the College of DuPage and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ekaterinburg, Russia where he taught English and founded a foreign language library/resource center.

This book, built in PressBooks with financial support from the UCF Digital Learning Course Redesign Initiative, contains 14 chapters, each of which contains two to six pages about the process of literary research. Pages contain learning objectives, infographics, videos, examples, key takeaways, and exercises. The course contains numerous discussion areas and quizzes. It also contains a “Foundational Materials” assignment that provides a platform for student success with whatever research project their instructor assigns. The book is highly flexible and instructors may use all or any part of the book within their own webcourse.

Pendant le semestre d’automne 2020, en pleine crise du Covid-19, les étudiants du cours de Survol de la littérature française de l’ancien régime à UCF se sont retrouvés sur Zoom pendant quatre mois et demi.

Pour rendre la collaboration hebdomadaire et l’expérience de l’apprentissage plus vivantes, nous avons décidé d’organiser une conférence virtuelle pendant laquelle les étudiants se sont organisés en panels par thème, et ont présenté les articles de recherche sur lesquels ils ont travaillé pendant le semestre.

Puis nous avons décidé de pousser l’expérience jusqu’au bout et de publier nos propres actes de la conférence.

By engaging with this resource which presents texts by diverse world writers from 1650 to the present, learners will: (1) engage with diverse world writers in translation, including canonical and less canonical texts, and (2) identify literary conventions and trends across genres. The texts are in chronological order, but can be adapted by the faculty in whatever way they see fit.
