My Service Learning Journal

What I've learned through this service experience?

Over my semester at Make-A-Wish, I have learned so much and have been able to help so much. Many things I’ve learned about leadership, I learned from my supervisor, Mary. She is a natural born leader and truely cares about her work. It is so important to care about the work you are doing, because if not there will be no passion or drive.

5 things I learned about Leadership:

  • It is important to care about who you are leading, and the puprose of the leadership.
  • The way you communicate when leading can positively or negatively affect your leadership.
  • Kindness is never a bad thing when leading.
  • Some actions have big echos
  • Body language is also important when it comes to communicating.

Dear Mary and Darbi,

Thank you so much for letting me assist you this semester. It has been an honor and privledge to learn from both of you. Both of you care so much about the purpose of Make-A-Wish and the difference you can make in the lives of others. From my experience at Make-A-Wish, I have learned that passion is necessary when becoming a leader. In addition to how much I have learned, I have also had so much fun at all the places this experience has taken me. From the cool restaurants and shops I have visited to pick up donations, to Walk for Wishes in Lake Eola, and soon the Wishmakers Ball. I could not imagine the semester without this amazing experience.

Thank you so much again,

Emma Cassidy
