My Service Learning Journal

As an intern of Make-A-Wish, I work with the development team. Specifically I work under Mary Lerch, who is the Development and Events Manager at the Northern and Central Florida office. She is an amazing leader and I truley look up to her. She has a huge commitment to Make-A-Wish as she works hard every day to organize the events to raise money.  She is a great collaborater as she has two coworkers that help her with the events, and two interns that assist her. This also contributes to her strength in having a common purpose. She is very good at respecting other peopole opinions and utilizing everyone’s ideas, so one her her strengths is Controversy with Civility. I do believe she has a good Consciousness of Self, however it is not one her strengths that shines through like the others. Sometimes she can get upset or overwhelmed easily and isn’t aware of how she acting. Overall she is an amazing leader and has worked hard for Make-A-Wish for 2 years now. From Mary I have learned that being a kind leader is so important. Being nice to the people you are leading can make such an impact and makes people more willing to work with you. I have also learned how delegation can make such a difference in the work place. Finally, I learned that you have to be passionate about what you are working towards and the people you are leading. Mary truely cares about everyone in the office and the people she leads.
