My Service Learning Journal

Hello, my name is Jeremy, and I am a volunteer for the
Children’s Home Society Organization dedicated to
strengthening families through advocacy and support.
Founded in 1902 this amazing nonprofit organization
has worked collaboratively with several schools,
universities, and community leaders to bring awareness
to ensuring families remain healthy, safe, and united.
Please join us in urging our community leaders and
lawmakers in the Florida House of Representatives to
support this important initiative. Take a step towards
helping Children’s Home Society continue the mission
to prevent hunger, keep families together, and provide
essential support and resources to those in need.
Healthy Families are the key to helping children
thrive and nearly 100% of families in the program at
Children’s Home Society remain safely together. They
keep children out of foster care and create stronger
relationships for a better future academically and
socially. They support child abuse prevention programs
to encourage alternatives for those in need. These
successes are not possible without the support of
volunteers like you and me. The partnerships this
organization needs to keep their commitment to the
communities in need are crucial to keeping the
inspiring momentum going.
If you are looking to invest in a nonprofit
organization that stands out above the rest, then this is
the place to start. If you want to feel like your
volunteer work needs to be impactful and bring
happiness to a child’s family in need then look no
further. Children Home Society is all about bringing a
smile and hope to all who enter their doors.

There are several ways you can participate:
• Sign up at your local Children’s Home
Society center and volunteer.
• Distribute Flyers to bring awareness to the
program.
• Collect and distribute donations.
• Make baskets with items for families in
need.
• Join the leadership team to help with
advocacy.
Thank you for your time and we hope to see you
help us keep children healthy and safe!

Reflection: I thought about the key factors many of us look for when doing community service and I wanted to bring awareness to this organization through those lenses. I am a firm believer that the services you provide for a family can make all the difference in the life of a child, therefore this message needs to appeal to an audience who wants to join the cause. Youth is our future and politics plays an important role in making a path for families to stay healthy and strong. I wanted to send the message that this is a unique place that needs to keep its door open to the communities they serve.

Insight #2: It’s not the time you took to volunteer that matters, it’s the impact of your service that makes a difference.
