Taryn Brogli “By the Seaside”

My brother, Herminio, was used as my subject for this assignment. He is aged 18 years old, male, and also takes this class.

“I took this in my home Key West where I was raised. It is the southernmost point of the United States and I am very grateful to have been raised there. I grew up by the water and enjoyed moments like these. This captured picture was a day we were on the boat.”

This photo captures the energy of the keys. The crystal clear water and vibrant colors on the fish show how full of life his home is. The image perfectly portrays this tropical environment and its beauty, which explains why he wanted to capture the picture. In a town as captivating as this one, anyone would be lucky to have grown up here.

“This picture was also captured in the Keys when my family and I went snorkeling. Snorkeling was a fun activity to enjoy in the Keys because of the great variety of environments. Being able to appreciate the unique underwater scenery was made even better with those close to me.”

Similar to the first image, this one embodies the high quality of our sand bars and coral reefs. Since I also grew up in the keys, this makes me remember the importance of clean oceans. Going out on the boat and snorkeling are valuable activities to the residents of the keys, therefore we take a lot of pride in doing everything we can to keep it that way.

“I took this picture whilst on a cruise. I was heading from Florida to the Bahamas on vacation. I enjoyed this scenery as it showed a vast ocean with nothing to be seen but pure nature.”

Another picture representing the beauty of our oceans. Although this picture wasn’t taken in Key West, it gives me a mental connection to our ports in Key West. Clean and healthy water is super important to those who live near it, but it should also be just as important to those who like to visit it. Key West is a very popular tourist location, whether it’s by cruise, plane, or car. Therefore, tourists should be just as mindful when wanting to spend time in the water.

Theme: Looking at all the pictures provided, an obvious similarity between them is that they all contain the ocean. However, there is a much deeper meaning that I took away from this set of images. They all show the beauty of our world’s oceans, which just stresses the importance of elongating the beauty. Along with my brother, there are many people who grow up near the waters and make memories similar to ours. If we want people to keep making these valuable memories, we have to do our part in keeping the ocean and wildlife clean and healthy.

Connection: An article that relates to these ideas and descriptions is “Polluted Paradise” by Camila Nicholls. Nicholls proceeded to show images of polluted waters and this heavily relates to the themes I presented because it shows the horrors of what is currently happening around the world. It really opens your eyes and shows you the harm that pollution can and will do to our ocean wildlife if we don’t do anything to stop it. If we want to enjoy our oceans and vacation in crystal clear water, we need to step in and step up before it’s too late.
