What I’ve learned through this service experience?

Dayron Rojas

Working at Rhizome has truly been the opportunity of a lifetime. Being able to embark on my management journey at such an early stage in my career and gain invaluable life experiences, which many others my age may not have access to, is something I deeply cherish and am immensely grateful for.

As a Regional Organizer (RO) responsible for overseeing operations in three states—Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio—I co-lead weekly training sessions and meetings with a team of 10 community organizers, while simultaneously guiding 48 fellows through our seasonal action plans. It’s worth noting that the average RO typically oversees just one state with 3-4 community organizers. I’ve been recognized for my adeptness in fellow retention and for the community building structures I’ve implemented in my chapters.

During my tenure, I’ve honed my management, teamwork, collaboration, mediation, and partnership skills. Leading a team and collaborating with them to support our fellows, while also liaising with 15 other ROs nationwide to implement effective management strategies, has been a rewarding challenge. Additionally, I’ve cultivated my ability to work with various counties, ensuring our operations align with their requirements, and developing my skills in partnership-building and conflict mediation when necessary.

Hey Erin,

I wanted to write you a letter thanking you. Although we hadn’t spoken very often in the beginning of Rhizome, I’ve gotten to know you a lot throughout this academic year. Not only as a supervisor but also as a friend. The energy and reassurance you bring to our one on one meetings is something I truly cherish and feels like a breath of fresh air when the work gets hectic. I also appreciate your ability to guide me through sometimes turbulent voter registrations. Sine your full-time hiring in the fall, you’ve been an invaluable asset to the organization and I truly believe no one and I mean no one could replace the work and joy you bring us.

I hope to be able to continue working you throughout the upcoming years and get to see you create even more braufitly and enriching systems for our fellowship.

Thanks you!

Gratefully,

Dayron
