My Service Learning Journal
How did I connect with others who serve this cause or population?
During my service at the Islamic Society of Central Florida, I’ve had the privilege of meeting a wide variety of individuals. My time as head chef during the Family Night events and my role in educational programs have been pivotal in my personal and professional growth. During Ramadan, a period marked by heightened communal activities, I had the honor of catering to over 300 people each night, which greatly enriched my network and allowed me to form bonds with community members and industry professionals alike.
The commitment to keep these new connections alive beyond my service time remains a priority. While I expect there will be a dip in my community involvement once Ramadan concludes, I am determined to continue nurturing the relationships I’ve developed.
In a particularly challenging moment during my internship at Samaritan AI, I didn’t let setbacks deter me; instead, I sought and obtained a mentorship with the CEO. This determination not only expanded my knowledge in AI and programming but also taught me the value of resilience and the importance of reaching out proactively to establish meaningful professional relationships.
As I move forward, I understand that maintaining these relationships will require effort, especially outside the vibrant atmosphere of Ramadan. However, I am ready to employ various strategies to ensure these connections remain strong. My plan includes regular communication and participation in community events, aiming to rely on the guidance and support of my professors and professional acquaintances as I progress through my academic and career path.
In summary, the connections I’ve fostered during this period are not transient—they are the foundations upon which I plan to build my future. The sense of community, collaboration, and shared learning I’ve experienced will continue to inform my approach to networking and community engagement as I move beyond my service at the ISCF.
