My Career Ready Portfolio

Vision Board Reflection:

My vision board revolves around the goals I have for this year. I divided them into 5 sections: hobbies, work, exercise, travel and quality time. There’s at least 1 goal for each part that’s part of the vision board.

The first section I created was for hobbies, and it has a picture of a pen and a bookcase. The pen is because I have a writing goal of at least 500 words every day on whatever topic I want. This is a goal I set for myself in December after successfully being able to write every single day (even if it was a mere sentence). The bookcase is a newer goal I set after buying a new bookshelf for my room. Right now it’s empty but I’m hoping to start filling it up throughout the year which is why I made the goal of reading 1 book every week with some exceptions. I’ve done this goal in the past but it unfortunately failed. Now I’m giving it a second shot and using the new book shelf to track my progress.

The second section I created was for exercise. I really enjoy walking so I included a picture for that – normally I’d go for walks around my neighborhood daily, but recently I’ve really enjoyed walking around campus before commuting home. The second picture is related to my fitness goal for calisthenics. Calisthenics is body weight exercise and I’ve been doing them for around 2 years now (with an extended break in between). Over the break I lost a lot of strength due to being sick 3 times in one month. So the goal related to this is just being able to get back on my routine and doing a little every week. These aren’t very concrete goals at the moment but I know I want to keep improving my health and regain that strength I lost.

The third section focuses on travel. For this one I only selected one picture and its landscape photo of Switzerland. I visited Switzerland for the first time last summer on a Europe Tour and I loved it. We went to a small town next to Mt Titlus known as Engelberg and the scenery really stuck with me and the idea of living on a mountain (for a short time) seemed exhilarating. That’s the main goal this year is to be able to experience that because it’s what stood out to me the most on the tour. Another topic that I wanted to quickly introduce was quality time. I try to make goals related to relationships because I also have a bad habit of overlooking the relationships I have. This year I want to focus more on quality time with my parents and grandparents who I live with. I haven’t done a goal like this before but it’s so crucial that I had to this year.

Finally my work goals are divided between the work I’m doing at the research lab (for physics) and my academics. At the moment at the lab I am working and instructing a few new volunteers we have gotten. In terms of leadership I’ve really exhibited delegative leadership, since I usually run different research projects its important that I delegate the work between all the members doing research. This really helps save time and energy on menial tasks by helping me focus on the main goal for our projects. I enjoy doing research quite a bit and might end up doing it as a career in the future so I’m grateful to have a position like this where I can learn and teach others together. Also at the moment medical school is an option for me too which I want to try. Because of all the options I have been doing a bit of everything whether its research, clinical hours and shadowing.

To end it off, I would say the leadership that I feel most aligned with has to be delegative simply because of the efficiency of it. I like the idea of everyone having roles and each member having the autonomy to finish their own work. I noticed this style a lot in the clinic I volunteered in and it really kept the entire system clean and efficient.
