Leadership Philosophy

My leadership philosophy stems from a multitude of factors that make up who I am. So, who am I? Diving into this question, I am a first-generation college student at the University of Central Florida studying aerospace engineering. I was raised under an Italian and Irish household, making me a devoted Catholic. I’ve been involved in various activities that have developed my leadership skills throughout the years. To name a couple, I was in high school robotics and marching band. I’m also the youngest in my family of four, following my older sister.

All these qualities of me have contributed to developing my leadership style. My religion has deeply influenced this. I believe that Jesus is the ultimate leader and best role model to follow. Therefore, my style took on a servant manner. I always treat my followers with respect and kindness, as I would want to be treated. Throughout my time in robotics, I gained a love for teaching. I was able to hone into my communication skills to teach younger/inexperienced students different skills, such as how to use tools or talk to competition judges. My experience in marching band certainly took me on a more intense journey of my development. Being at the top of the officer hierarchy my last year made me into a quick decision maker under pressure. It was a rapid change in my style. I had to be flexible and learn to trust myself. I made sure I never abused my authoritative powers, so I took on the idea to “be in the trenches” with the other band members and work just as hard, if not harder, for them. Moving onto college as an aerospace engineering major developed my work ethic and my passion. It has pushed me to grow my time management skills and make me into a more organized person overall. Lastly, my personality has always been easy-going, goofy, and charismatic. I believe this is due to me being the youngest child in my family where the dynamics between me and my sister developed those traits.

My core values and motivation have also stemmed from these attributes and experiences. I am a firm believer that work should be play. I want a career that I will enjoy and stick with. I also wish to make my current and future family proud. My parents worked hard and sacrificed a lot to give me and my sister the life we have now. I want to give my children and loved ones a good and happy life. These expectations I have set for my personal and professional life have made me an extremely committed person overall. I value authenticity and loyalty in myself and others.

In conclusion, the qualities I developed and the experiences I underwent in my life have shaped me into the leader I am today. My leadership philosophy has a strong foundation in servitude where I believe it is important to put the needs of my followers first. It also highlights the value of discipline to reach my goals and commitment to others. I lastly strive to be an authentic leader with charisma and a passion to enjoy what I do and work towards.
