My Personal Leadership Philosophy

Personal Leadership Philosophy Statement

Leadership is defined as the action of leading a group of people or an organization. And I believe that being a leader at school, work, or an organization is a privilege that comes with responsibility. There is not one correct way to be a leader, just as there isn’t one correct way to become successful.  My leadership style is transformational leadership. Transformational leaderships embrace change and motivate their team with goal setting. They are big on providing guidance and inspiration to their team, as well as inspiring each one of their members to reach their potential.

I have a strong drive and passion for everything that I do, especially when it comes to reaching a goal. Whether it’s at the gym, I want to reach the goal of getting stronger/healthier. Or at school, where I want to reach the goal of maintaining my good grades. Or at work, where I want to reach the goal of keeping our customers happy. I consider myself a passionate person. I also love change. I believe that change is success’ bestfriend. For example, bad habits can only go away by changing them to good ones. Change leads to growth!

I believe that every person can reach their potential. I motivate others by inspiring them to do more than they thought they could. I am so passionate about helping others. When it comes to decision making, that’s when my core values and beliefs go into action. Integrity, authenticity, and respect are my core values of leadership. With integrity, it’s important for me to be honest and adhere to my moral ethical principles about doing the right thing. With authenticity, for me to build authentic relationships with my peers, my team, my bosses and so forth. Lastly, I believe that respect is such an essential and core value of leadership especially when it comes to my leadership style. No matter how many people I am in charge of, I will respect every single one of them. Just because I am their leader, does not mean the respect is not there. If anything, respect is what will pull the team together, as we all mutually respect one another.

As I mentioned before, I believe that being a leader comes with responsibility. By being a good listener, I can help achieve the individual goals of my members. I can learn what it is we need to improve, and it helps me as a leader learn what I can change. Being a leader also comes with the responsibility of guiding others. I feel the best way to guide someone is to inspire them. Inspiring someone leads to motivation. Guidance is when you mold a path to achieve a certain goal. Motivation enhances our energy and our power to reach the goal till the end. Without inspiring others while we guide them, it will become harder to achieve the goal. For example, if a father is trying to teach his son how to ride a bike, with guidance he will show him how to pedal, how to turn, and how to break. But if he does all that, and tells his son that when the Ice Cream Truck comes, if he learns to ride a bike he can get there before everyone that is walking, the boy now has a motivation-to be the first one at the ice cream truck.

To me change is also important in achieving goals. Sometimes, the first way we try to reach a goal might not be the best way. It’s important to know that change is a good thing. It can help us learn and grow. Change also helps with adaptability, if things always stay the same it’s harder to adapt when a change comes. But if we are always changing and evolving, it promotes growth and adaptability. For example, for 9 years of my life I went to a Private school. It was a very small Catholic school with only 500 students total from kindergarten to 8th grade. I really wanted to go to the Catholic High School that all my friends were going to. But my parents wanted me to go to a bigger highschool, where I could be more prepared for college. It was a hard decision they had to make, but I ended up going to the bigger public school. It had 2000 students. It was a huge change, and I was terrified during my first months at this school, but it was an extremely good change. I ended up growing out of my comfort zone by joining the marching band, the lacrosse team and being part of the Business Academy. I would not have had those opportunities in a smaller school. And as I mentioned before, change promotes adaptability. By going to this massive public highschool, it made my transition to UCF, one of largest schools in the nation, very smooth.
