My Leadership Vision Board
Above this is a picture of my Vision Board. I have always loved helping others, and I have always been interested in the medical field ever since I was very little and watched my Grandmother work as a pediatrician. When I was a child I wanted to help other children. And as an adult, I can still say the same. Children are creatures of God. They are always so happy, and being around them fills my heart. My career goal is to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Pediatric Nurse Practitioners work with children in ER’s, clinical centers, in offices and more. I based my career path on my goal of helping others, as well as my passion-working with children. I do believe that being a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner will be an extremely rewarding career. And in the future, I plan to open my own Pediatric Clinic as an NP.
I believe that I am a mix of two leadership styles. I believe that I have a transformational leadership style as well as a servant leadership style. It is a leadership approach that prioritizes change and transformation. By utilizing their potential, leaders that take this tack aim to motivate their followers to go beyond what they previously believed was possible. Transformational leaders are forward-thinking and consider what has to be done to accomplish the objectives of the organization. In order for their followers to realize their maximum potential, they work to enhance each person’s unique talents and abilities. The goal of servant leadership is to prioritize the needs of others. It places a lot of emphasis on forging close bonds with those around you and empowering them to realize their greatest potential. As a leader, you have to put a lot of effort into getting to know the people you work with, helping them to grow, and knowing their individual objectives in addition to leading by example.
My first taste of leadership I’ve had is by taking a babysitting course and becoming a babysitter. As a sitter I have had to problem solve, make decisions, and react to emergencies. One time, there was a child I was babysitting and after making them mac and cheese for dinner, I noticed they started choking on something else they were eating. I had to act quickly in this emergency, I was terribly scared, but after patting them firmly on the back and almost performing the Heimlich, I got them to cough it up.
Another most recent leadership experience I’ve had would be at work. I am the manager at an ice cream shop. I have four other employees that I am in charge of. I have a great relationship with each one of the workers. We have mutual respect and understanding. I am always looking for what we need to improve in the store, as well as asking for their input on things we should improve or do differently. I like changing up things, like not having the same gelato flavors out all the time, and I’ve even discussed with the owners about opening a store near UCF. They are currently looking into it and thought it was a great idea. All of my employees have their own set of abilities and some are stronger than others. One of them is great at making the gelato splits and sundaes. They look incredible. Another one of my employees is amazing at talking with the customers. Customers always come back asking where that employee is because they want to talk to them when they aren’t working. Another one is great at working on the ice cream truck-it can be difficult to work on it and not everyone wants to. And my last worker is incredibly great at keeping up with restocking and making sure the area is always clean and organized.
I would say that I haven’t had any service relating to my career interest, but I have had my leadership experience shape what type of leader I am. I believe that being a transformational and servant style leader will help me greatly when working as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. As a transformational leader, I will always look to see what we can improve for the future, as well as focusing on the potential of each of my patients and knowing what their strengths and abilities are, and use them to help them get better. As a servant leader, I will make ethical decision making which is extremely important when working in the Medical field.
