About my Leadership Vision Board

The first image in my leadership vision board is UCF’s College of Medicine. There are many reasons why I’d like to attend our university’s medical school. For one, the program is exceptional, especially considering the fact that it was created less than 20 years ago (UCF College of Medicine, n.d.) I would consider it a great honor and privilege to learn from the amazing faculty and to utilize the incredible resources and opportunities it has. Also, I’m an Orlando native, so if I  can stay close to my family during these difficult years, I would prefer to do so. After graduating from UCF’s College of Medicine, I would hope to become a licensed forensic pathologist (shown in image 6) after residency. I’ve always been passionate about science and the legal system, and this position would be a blend of both that would allow me to use my curiosity for good.

In terms of my leadership style, I am most aligned with service leadership. This is defined as a philosophy that “prioritizes the growth, well-being, and empowerment of [other people] (White, 2022). Princess Diana has always been my motivating force when it comes to my leadership. She cared about people more than she cared about the rules and regulations of her position. Additionally, my third image contains a quote that relates to her leadership style and the one that I’ve taken on myself. A position or title does not make you a leader; the people have the power to make you a leader when they see your actions and integrity. I try to display leadership in all areas of my life, but especially in those regarding my current career path. The fifth image is of the University Writing Center here at UCF where I work in a healthcare research and writing lab. Here I am able to assist students in the writing process of their research papers which is aligned with my future career in healthcare. Additionally, I am currently volunteering and doing my service project with Hearts 4 the Homeless Orlando. In the 5th image, where I am wearing light blue jeans, my fellow student volunteers and I are joined by an individual who had taken part in our services (free blood pressure, EKG, and visual acuity testing) that day. This experience has really helped build my empathy for the health issues of the underserved. Being a physician is not just about having a passion for the human body, it’s about caring for humans and wanting to make a difference in their lives.
