My Career Ready Portfolio

I value family, friends, hard work, loyalty, and helping others. I am extremely passionate about mental health and getting help to those who need it. My professional is to provide mental health support to people and making it possible for those who can not afford it or do not have easy access to therapists to receive help as well. I expect myself to always put in as much effort as I can and try my best for any goal or task I have in my life. This connects to how much I value hard work. This applies to others as well because I expect people to try their best and that is the most one can do, even if we fail. My personal definition of success is living a happy life where you contribute to others’ happiness as well. No goal or aspirations can beat being happy and making others happy to me.

My leadership style leans towards transactional because when working with a team, I find it most productive to exchange knowledge with one other. This leadership style allows for teammates to lean on each and utilize their strengths to benefit the group. I favor the transactional leadership style because I have been on many sports teams and involved in many clubs, so I am used to being a part of a group that acknowledges each individual’s skill set. This experience taught me that as a leader, knowing your peers’ strengths will be very beneficial. This knowledge allows you to split up the work according to who would be the most successful with each task.

From my personal leadership experiences, I have learned that there are many people who do not have access to the same resource that I do. Some examples include hearing classmates volunteer in neighborhoods with limited resources and even volunteering at an elementary school I observed it. At the elementary school I volunteered at, several students had mental health concerns and trouble getting good food and clothing. These experiences made me realize that I want to figure out a way to meet these needs as a therapist.

My leadership philosophy is summarized as leading a group willing to help the community and ensuring that the needs of people are met. My philosophy is related to common purpose and collaboration because everyone involved must be passionate about serving others and must work together to efficiently help the community. It is also related to citizenship because it involves a group of people working to better the community.
