My Career Ready Portfolio
My career aspirations include becoming a licensed mental health counselor. I want to graduate from UCF with my BS in psychology and then go to graduate school at UCF as well. After receiving my master’s and license, I want to become a therapist at another practice. After gaining experience, I would like to start my own practice.
My leadership style leans towards transactional because when working with a team, I find it most productive to exchange knowledge with one other. This leadership style allows for teammates to lean on each and utilize their strengths to benefit the group. I favor the transactional leadership style because I have been on many sports teams and involved in many clubs, so I am used to being a part of a group that acknowledges each individual’s skill set. This experience taught me that as a leader, knowing your peers’ strengths will be very beneficial. This knowledge allows you to split up the work according to who would be the most successful with each task.
A leadership experience that is related to my career interest is working with children in an elementary school class. I am interested in specializing in child psychology and volunteering to help young children gave me helpful insight for this career choice. I volunteered multiple days a week in multiple classes and I learned different methods to communicate with children and how to make them feel heard. These learned skills are essential if I become a therapist for children.
