Carlos Granja – Portfolio project
Preface: Hello my name is Carlos Granja, My work is titled “Environmental Poetry: Natural Rivers: a human appreciation of one of earth’s most valuable resources. I will be using a CC BY license for my project.
Environmental poetry is all around us, a natural way that earth has found to teach humanity valuable lessons. Rivers are a great example of this. And it has encouraged us to think about the way we take care of our natural resources.
This portfolio is going to address the themes of preservation of natural resources and humanity taking for granted the gift that earth gave to us and polluting it. Rivers and its pollution have shown us how we humans take everything for granted. And we are so focused on ourselves that we forget that at the end of the day, we are not just damaging our mother earth but also ourselves by placing our trash on rivers, by dropping chemicals in crystalline water. By adding fertilizers that make harmful bacteria grow and kill all the living organisms, that we also reserve the right to eat, and later complain for being sick.
Conservation of natural resources include the responsible use of natural resources as well as the protection from harmful human activities. Natural resource conservation is very important since not only humans but also plants and animal can benefit form it. Natural resources include things such as air, plants, food, shelter and drinking water. Rivers are a great source of natural drinkable water. Water is very useful for humans because it allows us to stay hydrated, sanitation, growing crops and growing livestock. humans require an average of 9- 13 cups of water a day in order to survive. And remember out of most of earths water rivers and oceans only 0.05% is drinkable (Most of this water comes from rivers). Earth gave us the water as way to present freedom and cleanness, so we humans could hydrate in a hot day and continue with our lives, so that we could relax after a long day of work. But we humans instead decided that since water was something we did not created therefore, it is something of less importance to us.
Water pollution is the contamination of this natural Resource that is caused by the addition of chemicals, trash, bacteria and parasites. This makes the water undrinkable and there unable to use as intended. Water can quickly dissolve harmful substances like radioactive waste and oil waste. In this image we can see a river polluted by plastic and wasteful products, its conveying human lack of care for Rivers and therefore its own source of hydration and the things that he eat. Only thing to learn here is how ungrateful man is to earth. The consequences are going to be simple: Death of nature, Death of animals, lack of proper hydration, our death and then the death of earth herself.
Rivers are often part of the most beautiful sceneries that there are on earth. Rivers can help us transport and go on boat in a nice sunny day. Rivers provide us with drinkable water, they provide by nourishing the plants and food that we eat. Like the blood of earth it provides the foundation of everything that breathes. And it would be better that by destroying this source we would be destroying ourselves, but by destroying this natural source there is not comeback from earth, not revenge, not a global warning or some way that earth tries to get rid of us for what we are doing. If we don’t take care of our rivers then earth has no blood and we will be gone with her.
