For my Portfolio Project, I have chosen option 2 for which I have to select an environmental artistic expression from outside of the class. On this note I am currently a civil engineering student with a minor in environmental design, so the topic of environmental style architecture is of great interest to me. I have decided to create a portfolio on environmental architecture. To me environmental architecture is not just for aesthetic purposes. Green Buildings are a form of art created within architecture to help prioritize sustainability and reduce the negative impact buildings and large metropolitan cities have on our environment.

The image above depicts a typical green roof. A green roof is a style of environmental architecture which can be found on the roof of buildings. The green roof is a common type of roofing system used to integrate vegetation and a growing medium such as soil or substrate on the roof surface. This type of system is not only aesthetically pleasing but also has many environmental benefits such stormwater management, energy efficiency, extended roof lifespan and more.  Although the benefits of the green roof can vary depending on location, design and maintenance it is a great way to an environmentally friendly twist to the structure of the roof of your house, office building and more.

The image above depicts an indoor park that is designed to mimic the outdoor environmental inside a building. The indoor parks provide a large green space area where people can enjoy the beauty of nature and take part in various activities inside the building. In indoor park you can oftentimes see things like large grass area, trees/plants, playgrounds, and full-size sport courts.

The building depicted in the image above is a residential green building named “the Vertical Forest” located in Milan Italy. The vertical forest buildings are a special type of environmental style architecture that allows greenery to cover the outside of tall buildings. These types of buildings are on many stories and have large balconies that are able to fit trees, shrubs, and other plants to grow on them. The main reason these types of buildings exist is to benefit the environment and to beautify the town.
