According to one (student) user, “The material in Strategies for Conducting Literary Research was fairly new to me. I have taken literature classes before, but none were as in-depth on the topic. This course has built just about everything I know about this. I have been able to better articulate myself in essays for other classes thanks to this class. I refer back to the material covered in this course often when writing an essay and I’ve found it extremely helpful when it comes to methodologies, picking a clear thesis, etc.”

Barry and John have developed a Faculty Guide and Quick Reference to accompany their ‘book’ and shared a robust slideshow to provide context and rationale for their resource. Access the publicly-available 2nd edition by selecting the cover image (on the left).

This handbook is designed to facilitate a dialogue between an instructional designer and the contents of AIM. You will likely begin with a topic of interest and be led through the resource in a (primitively) intuitive fashion until you arrive at your solution. Seeing this resource was designed from a workflow, the chapter structure is fluid, meaning there are multiple trajectories you might take through the materials, depending on the way you answer the embedded questions.

University Physics is a three-volume collection that meets the scope and sequence requirements for two- and three-semester calculus-based physics courses. Volume 1 covers mechanics, sound, oscillations, and waves. Volume 2 covers thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, and Volume 3 covers optics and modern physics. This textbook emphasizes connections between theory and application, making physics concepts interesting and accessible to students while maintaining the mathematical rigor inherent in the subject. Frequent, strong examples focus on how to approach a problem, how to work with the equations, and how to check and generalize the result.

U.S. History is designed to meet the scope and sequence requirements of most introductory courses. The text provides a balanced approach to U.S. history, considering the people, events, and ideas that have shaped the United States from both the top down (politics, economics, diplomacy) and bottom up (eyewitness accounts, lived experience). U.S. History covers key forces that form the American experience, with particular attention to issues of race, class, and gender.

University Physics Volume 1 is the first of a three book series that (together) covers a two- or three-semester calculus-based physics course. This text has been developed to meet the scope and sequence of most university physics courses (in terms of what Volume 1 is designed to deliver) and provides a foundation for a career in mathematics, science, or engineering. The book provides an important opportunity for students to learn the core concepts of physics and understand how those concepts apply to their lives and to the world around them.

This anthology is divided into five major sections, starting with the Colonial period and ending with the publication of Harriet Jacobs’s Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl on the eve of the Civil War. Each section includes an overview and framework for approaching the readings, as well as overarching questions to help students think about the connections between the texts. There is also a brief introduction to each of the authors featured in these sections, followed by discussion questions based on the texts. The textual introductions do not include a great deal of biographical material; instead, I have used them to provide a frame (typically connected to the larger section introduction) that I hope will help students to navigate from. The discussion questions could also easily be used as open-ended exam questions or as essay prompts. Some of the discussion questions are also invitations for students to make intertextual connections, or to consider how the literary landscape changes from its “beginnings” to the Civil War.

By engaging with this resource which presents texts by diverse world writers from 1650 to the present, learners will: (1) engage with diverse world writers in translation, including canonical and less canonical texts, and (2) identify literary conventions and trends across genres. The texts are in chronological order, but can be adapted by the faculty in whatever way they see fit. Each text is introduced with a brief discussion of author, original language and time period, and the literary conventions the students can expect to see in the text.
