The 7Cs of leadership according to The Children’s Home Society of Florida.
The first C, Consciousness of self. I see no weakness in wanting to end the need for foster care by working with the children and their families to prevent disaster. I find that goal to be very much a strength. The people of Chsfl understand their values and those that they work with. Regardless of a home being 100% the best care possible for a foster child, being put into that system can put a great emotional and lots of physical toll on a child. If I could add to the growth of this value, I would like for more foster care facilities to sponsor and work with Chsfl. I love the idea of being able to volunteer and be a mentor, but maybe certain events can geared toward only the volunteers who have experienced these things to bond with those they help on a higher level.
The next value is Congruence. I define this value as matching your thoughts, values and beliefs with your actions. Of course this involves a self evaluation to make sure your values are still the same so they match your actions but there should also be room for others to offer their take as well. In terms of evaluation, CHS offers client satisfaction surgery’s which can be seen as weakness and strength. Yes they do have espérate forms for adults and children and the forms exist in general but those forms can sometimes be intimidating causing a person to lie or breeze through them and they don’t seem to be showcased enough so it could be possible for a lot of people to miss the surveys altogether. Maybe the surveys could be set to automatically be emailed to the main form of the other parties communication or shortening the surveys down to just asking how the partnership could’ve went better.
Next we have commitment, this is an all around 110% strength for CHS. CHS has offices all over Florida, multiple partnerships, activities that can be completed remotely like affirmation jars or therapy kits that can be given to kids and adults in need and if you can’t participate you can always donate . They make it possible for any and everybody to help out and give.
I think the values of collaboration, common purpose, and citizenship speak for themselves through CHS’ reiteration of their mission, value, and goals as well as their multiple partnerships.
Although no one likes to argue or disagree, CHS does ensure that if there is controversy it is handled accordingly. On their website they do post their registration for solicitation, they have the satisfaction surveys if there is a problem, they have contact Info for addressing concerns, a privacy policy, and their HIPPA guidelines are posted. So no stone is left unturned.
If I could give three big takeaways about this organizations leadership that I have experienced thus far, I would say:
- I love the fast, clear, and concise email responses when I have questions
- Those that take part in this organization love what they do and do it out of the kindness of their hearts
- Lastly, those of CHS make it so easy to help and give back no matter your situation
