My Career Ready Portfolio

While taking my UCF Focus 2 Career assessment, I noticed that many of the job that most match my values personality and skills match within the Healthcare Practitioners & Technical job family or the Education & Training job family. I found this very interesting as both paths I have very heavily considered both apply to those job families, those jobs being an occupational therapist or a preschool teacher. Ultimately, I decided on focusing my efforts towards occupational therapy due to the salary and my love of helping people. Although my career isn’t outright listed, I am confirmed that many of the careers that were suggested were within the Healthcare Practitioners & Technical job family.

In regard to my Work interest assessment, the holland code I received when I took it was ASI which breaks down into Artistic, Social, and Investigative components. The groups that are described me as a worker are a Creator, a Helper, and a Thinker. I was honestly surprised by these results at first since many of the careers that were suggested were not near mine, rather a collection of jobs that where in the arts. I find this interesting as if it wasn’t due to the salary I would be in a more creative job. However, I feel as if my chosen job still applies as it falls under the helper group. As for the leisure interest assessment, my top three are SAI. These stand for Sharing, Aesthetic, and Inquiring which are closely related to my work interest however they are in a different interest level. Like I said in the work interest section, having a sharing interest in my list helps as it shows my wanting to help. From both work and leisure interest I did learn that I need to find some creative outlet within my work which will help me come up with specific regimens to help each patient. The “best fit” occupation I most agree with is pediatrician as I want to go into pediatric occupational therapy.

Additionally, the “best fit” job I most disagree with is the broadcast news analyst. I disagree with this as I personally hate not only listening to the news but also don’t enjoy writing. I also found it weird that that was something that was suggested since most of my categories involved helping people and this doesn’t directly affect people. To me, the most important assessments are work, leisure, and personality. I find these the most important for me to actually enjoy what I am doing rather than what I would be best at skill wise. Running a report using these values. I did find it interesting however that none of the occupations fall within my top three interest which I find mildly disappointing since this what is the most important to me. Overall, from taking these tests I have further solidified the comfort in my career and while comparing it to my assessments taking throughout my time in LEAD they all align. From my true colors I learned I was a blue, which is a more emotions-driven leader that enjoys creativity which corresponds to my work and leisure interest.  Additionally when compared to my personality strength results compared to the 5 work assessments, I was able to see that because of my strength of empathy, I am driven to help others.
