My Career Ready Portfolio

Where I am headed? My Career Compass Reflection

My primary occupational alignment, according to the assessment, lies within the medical field, with a particular affinity for roles such as nursing and cardiology. Additionally, I exhibit leadership-oriented qualities suited for positions like high school principal and athletic director. I believe these results accurately reflect my interests and capabilities, stemming from a longstanding desire to contribute to the medical field, even prior to my major change to Computer Science.

While my ultimate career goal is to become a software engineer, I aspire to combine the distinctive characteristics of someone in the medical field into the tech industry. This approach will help set me apart from other candidates applying for similar positions and underscores my commitment to bringing a unique perspective to the field.

My top three leisure interests are “the doers,” “the helpers,” and the “persuaders.” This perfectly lines up with my career interests because, as a software engineer, you must be a “doer,” preferring to work on systems and favoring more practical occupations. Being a doer also means being extremely persistent, a trait accurate for both a career in the medical field, as indicated by the “best fit occupations” survey, and my dream job as a software engineer. Persistence involves being consistent with your work, regardless of the challenges that arise on the job, making it an extremely important trait for a software engineer.

My second leisure interest, “The Helper,” also fits my career interest due to the fact that as a software engineer, you work with teams on certain projects that require much teamwork and communication. As a software engineer, you must be able to assist your teammates if they face any issues that can hinder their job performance. With the ability to help others, software engineers must communicate effectively with their teammates and coworkers in different teams, a trait that many current software engineers may not develop until later in their careers. I am glad that I am starting to develop this trait early on.

The third leisure interest is “The Persuaders,” which likely stems from my participation in the LEAD Scholar program at UCF, helping me possess the traits of a persuader. I love to work with others and help them when needed, enjoying being a positive influence on others, which are characteristics of being a leader. As a software engineer, one must possess leadership traits to meet deadlines and lead projects that their team is working on.

These descriptions might help me consider what branch of technology I want to be involved in, whether I want to be in the management aspect, the entrepreneurial aspect, or the cyber defense aspect of technology.

Insight: “self-belief and hardwork will always earn you success”.
